Yesterday a web designer e-mailed me this question: “We have a client who wants to be able to post an article to their WordPress blog and have it show up on their Web site. Your article recently talked about how to get WordPress articles to post to Facebook and Twitter which was great, but do you know of a way to get it to post to their Web site too.” Great question. If your blog is on Blogger or WordPress, you might want to promote your most recent blog posts on your website too. Publishing blog post titles, a link and a short description of your most recent blog articles on your web page keeps your company’s website fresh. It also helps you get more subscribers to your blog. Promote Your Blog on Your Website: Three Easy Steps STEP 1: Set-up Google’s Feedburner for Your RSS Feed Go to: http://feedburner.google.com If you haven’t already signed up for Feedburner, you’ll want to sign-up. Then you will see a screen like this: To find your default RSS feed URL, click on the RSS icon on your browser. It’s the orange and white square circled below: After clicking on your RSS icon, you will see a page [...]

In addition to being a Film and TV actress, I am also a script reader. A script reader (or story analyst), usually hired by the script development team of a production company, is paid to read screenplays and then write about what they have read, this output is called a coverage. The coverage serves as a grading system, to rate screenplays. Screenplays are usually given one of three ratings: “Consider” (the screenplay has promise but revisions are necessary), “Pass” (there is no interest in pursuing the screenplay), or “Recommend” (the screenplay is good and recommended for possible production). The better the rating, the better chance a screenplay will have of being produced. You should consider your business blog post to be your “script” of the day, week or whatever frequency you use to blog. So, what screenwriting tips can bloggers utilize to get more bang for their buck and ultimately get more readers and become a “Recommend”? 1. You use good writing technique in your blog posts. Do you use good grammar? Have you reviewed your post for typos prior to publishing? The use of good grammar and good spelling in your post says you are a professional – you [...]

Does it strike you as curious that some of the most vocal about establishing a niche are all blogging about increasing your social media prominence? Or, more accurately today, podcasting, webcasting, video conferencing and writing via internet tools to sell a “unique” product or service that will show how “you too can get the secrets that made me a millionaire before I reached the age of twenty-five.” It’s ironic in the true sense of the word – particularly as it pertains to the audience purported to be the beneficiaries of these products and services. Actually it’s sad, as the irony seems to be lost on the minions that line up to pay for the landmark program now being offered “to only thousands before the offer ends at midnight on Friday.” No wonder there are so many in the me too crowd crying about how success has evaded them as they’ve joined the ranks of bandwagon believers copying a niche formula with proof it “worked to generate a six-plus figure income” – when it was a new idea. You’d think the only industry capable of benefiting from social media is the consultants selling products that teach you how to make money [...]

That’s the question my blogging coach Bea Fields who conducts the “Become a Blogging Maniac” course asked several of us on our weekly call where we offer each other advice, the names of new WordPress plug-ins, articles to read, etc. We’re graduates of her course and have formed a nice circle of bloggers who care about each other. She asked us to look at our blogs and ask ourselves: What would you change about your blog? What would you stop doing? What would you start doing? What would you do more of? After some thought, I realized that the questions were really about how would changing our blogs change our business. It was surprising how frank we were in admitting we don’t have all the answers. I know I don’t. My blog has become central to my business and how I promote myself. Honestly, without getting too gushy, my blog is me. Putting in the work, week in and week out, I have accumulated a body of writing that has literally pulled me in the direction I want to go. In looking back at the topics I’ve covered in my blog, I’ve found where my passion lies. I know every professional [...]
