Maggie --

You said this so well. We're excited about an announcement when we put it on our site. But do we remember to take it off after the announcement is out of date?

Now if only someone would develop a WordPress plugin that would automatically self-destruct an announcement after the end date.

No matter how polished the rest of a site seems, having an out-of-date announcement or link leaves a bad impression on visitors and lowers the perception of the entire blog. Without a regular site check-up, it's very easy not to notice things like this. Thanks for the reminder! I will begin to schedule a note in my calendar every month to evaluate the site or ask a friend to look it over with fresh eyes :)

FYI, there is a WordPress plug-in called Broken Link Checker that can take care of that problem. Also, there is a plug-in called SEO Smart Links that can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.
