The Bloggers’ Bulletin is using WordPress.org on a private hosting account with BlueHost.com.
And I am pleased to say that WordPress.org has worked as advertised. It is user-friendly, offers excellent template selection as well as a huge variety of plug-ins (so, Mike Clough and Deb Lamb are heroes for suggesting that The Bloggers’ Bulletin using WordPress).
Keep in mind that this very positive Word Press appraisal is coming from a guy who still works with (a recently upgraded) Typepad — a blogging service he’s used for the last two-and-a-half years; and before Typepad, he used Blogger — a free blogging service — for a bit more than two years. So I’ve had a while to play around with blogging services in that are in competition with WordPress.
At this point you might be thinking: ”OK, so The Bloggers’ Bulletin is on Word Press, excellent. But what I want to know is: “what kind of WordPress Plug-Ins are you using?”
Well, the following is the list of Plug-Ins we have downloaded and activated thus far:
- Akismet — Checks comments to help eliminate spam.
- All in One SEO Pack — Out-of-the-box Search Engine Optimization for WordPress blogs.
- Folding Category List — What the Categories in the sidebar are currently displayed in.
- Google XML Sitemaps — Helps Google and other search engines index and crawl this blog better.
- KNR Author List — Allows you to arrange the Contributors List by order of when the Contributor joined (However, this Plug-In is about to be replaced)
- WordPress.com Stats — Tracks views, post/page views, referrers, and clicks.
So I now ask those of you who are fellow Word Press users: would you recommend we download and activate any other Plug-Ins for The Bloggers’ Bulletin? Thanks!

This is my first experience actually using Release 2.8, so I'll take a raincheck on further plugins while I get used to what's there now.
btw, Yahoo! Hosting stayed with V-2.6 until this month as V-2.8 was “not sufficiently stable on Yahoo servers;” however, now apparently ok — they sent out e-mail notice to users Yahoo host will upgrade all installed wp blogs to V-2.8 in next few weeks.
Just as I was getting ready to move.
Watching and waiting (some more)…
That is good to know, Peter. 2.84 has worked well so far; so, maybe we (barely) had some luck with our timing!
Barnacle Bob,
I see the 2.84 Write box has a command icon for “Paste from Word” — does this really work ok? have you used it?
Earlier versions of WordPress had serious problems when even a trace of Word formatting was slipped in.
Peter
Barnaclebob is Chris Franklin. I just put in a nom de guerre to setup the account; must have missed that it was going to become my username for Disqus. Going to have to see if I can change that.
Anyway, I've always had problems attempting to paste anything from Word to Blogger or Typepad fields. Going to have to experiment with 2.84 myself; haven't tried “Paste From Word” just yet But it would be great if it worked
One plug-in I would recommend is WP Super Cache. I installed it on my site after one of my posts was listed #1 on Google for a while. This plug-in greatly reduces server CPU load for heavily trafficked posts.
